“Remembering 9/11 From The Flight Deck of Air Force One” is the title of retired Air Force Lt. Col. Everett DeWolfe’s talk at the No. 1 British Flying Training School Museum’s Conversations With… series on October 9 at the Museum, 119 Silent Wings Blvd in Terrell. The luncheon will begin at 12 noon.
“Can you just imagine the tension in the cockpit of that aircraft on that fateful day?” commented BFTS Executive Director Patrick Hotard. “And, as Master Navigator, Col. DeWolfe was responsible for the President’s safety as he charted multiple possible air fields while monitoring reports that Air Force One was also one of the intended targets of the terrorists. Seating is limited so get your tickets early for this fascinating program.”
Now retired after 28 years in the Air Force with 12 years of service on the crew of Air Force One, Col. DeWolfe flew Air Force One during the administrations of Presidents Bill Clinton and George W. Bush. He also had the unique experience of piloting Freedom One to return American POWs home after the end of the first Gulf War. He has accumulated more than 7,500 hours of military flight time and 1,000 hours as a private pilot
The San Antonio native earned a bachelor’s degree from Texas A&M University where he was a member of the Corps of Cadets. He also earned a Master’s Degree from Florida Tech University. After 38 years of marriage, Col. DeWolfe lost his wife, Molly to Covid in 2020. Now married to the former Cynthia Thornley, they have six children and ten grandchildren between them.
The event, which includes lunch, are $30 per person and can be purchased on line at www.info@bftsmuseum.org or by calling 972-551-1122. The museum will be closed that morning and will reopen at 2 pm after the luncheon.
